Building pride in our school, in our
community…
Imagine the future….
It’s 6:00 p.m. on an autumn evening, and all the
classic sounds of high school fill the air. The football
team is just coming off the field, the marching band
is playing the school song, there’s a volleyball
tournament in the gym, water polo in the aquatics center,
and drama rehearsals are in full swing in the theater.
The campus is alive with activity. Fans of all ages wander
from one activity to the next. There is a sense of belonging,
a sense of community, and a sense of pride
Outstanding schools
help build attractive and prospering communities and
provide future leaders for our region’s
services and businesses. Northgate High School offers
students an outstanding academic curriculum as well as
a full range of athletic, artistic, and extra-curricular
activities that nurture the whole person – mind,
body, and spirit. Our graduates have a terrific track
record of success in their lives and careers.
When the Northgate High School campus first opened thirty
years ago, students were excited by the modern look and
the newest educational resources. But since then, postponed
additions and deferred maintenance have left the School
with inadequate facilities to support growing programs
in performing arts, physical education, and athletics.
Northgate students have long deserved the updated facilities
required for them to succeed in their academic and extra-curricular
endeavors.
Imagine a campus for Northgate High School with great
facilities for school activities, the arts, athletics,
and all sports programs.
A vision for our school and our community
In 1999, a group of parents and community leaders founded
the Northgate Community Pride Foundation to improve the
facilities at Northgate High School and other schools
in the Northgate community. The first step was to complete
a comprehensive survey of Mt. Diablo Unified School District
and Northgate High School administrators, Parent-Faculty
Association members, and students to identify facility
improvement needs and priorities and to incorporate these
into a Master Plan for campus improvements. The Pride
Foundation began its work with the very successful restoration
of the gymnasium in 2000, supported by state funding,
private donations, and the active involvement of parents,
alumni, and students. The Pride Foundation continues
its efforts to realize the implementation of the current
Master Plan.
Imagine the future….
How does it look?
The
vision of the Master Plan for the Northgate Campus
includes:
• Gymnasium
renovation: COMPLETED 2000
• Little Theater renovation: COMPLETED
Fall 2006
• New Sports Complex for football,
track, and soccer
• Initial improvements, including
scoreboard allowed home games in 2005 and 2006 seasons.
• Construction
to begin on all-weather track/field in Fall 2007.
• Bleachers,
lighting, concession and press box to follow in Phase
Two.
• Construction of a new Aquatics Center
The completion of these
three projects will create a vibrant, top-notch facility
to match Northgate’s
reputation as a premier academic institution. Northgate
High School will be a well-respected and valued community
landmark and educational resource, with the updated facilities
necessary to support its outstanding academic programs.
An attractive Northgate campus will enhance the success
of our students and pride in our neighborhoods and community.
Imagine yourself making a difference……
